WVBIC and WVCA Beef Industry Program Specialist

The West Virginia Beef Industry Council (WVBIC) and the West Virginia Cattlemen’s Association (WVCA) are searching for a Beef Industry Program Specialist. This position will be hired through WV Farm Bureau, but sole purpose will be leading the WVBIC and WVCA.  The successful candidate must possess outstanding organizational skills, be detail oriented, be able to communicate clearly with all stakeholder groups, and be able articulate and execute our shared vision for the West Virginia beef industry.

  • Reports to: Executive Secretary of WV Farm Bureau 
  • Location: Office at Buckhannon, but can work remotely within state of WV.  
  • Salary Range: Commensurate with education and experience

  • Hours/Week: 40* Education: Bachelor’s or equivalent industry experience  
  • Experience: Background in agriculture preferred, organizational leadership preferred, but other experience considered. 

*These hours will vary according to events, travel, and responsibilities to the beef council and association.  Occasional weekends and travel (statewide and nationwide) are required.

Position Summary: 

The Beef Program Specialist shall plan, direct and execute all activities of the West Virginia Beef Industry Council (WVBIC) and the West Virginia Cattlemen’s Association (WVCA) per direction and guidance of the boards. The Specialist will be a WV Farm Bureau employee and have limited administrative support from WVFB office, but responsibilities will be focused on WVBIC and WVCA.  The Specialist shall prepare an annual budget in conjunction with appropriate parties and monitor expenditures to ensure expenses do not exceed income for both the WVBIC and WVCA. The Specialist shall communicate with appropriate individuals, members, committees, organizations and media to promote and protect the beef industry, and will serve as the most prominent voice for West Virginia’s beef industry.  

The Program Specialist shall work with the Cattlemen’s Beef Board, as a qualified state beef council, following all guidelines to ensure the collection of checkoff funds as outlined by the Beef Promotion and Research Act of 1985. Shall work with the appropriate staff of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) as a state affiliate and through the Federation of State Beef Councils. Shall prepare marketing plans and annual reports, records, reports, membership marketing materials, and other related documents as required and requested by the WVBIC and WVCA. Shall provide regular communications with stakeholders, including checkoff remitters and WVCA members.

Specific duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Coordinate work of WVBIC and WVCA boards
    • Monitor board actions and ensure those actions are executed
      • Meeting planning
      • Coordinate details from meetings
      • Ad Hoch committee staffing
  • Provide regular communications with stakeholders, including checkoff remitters, WVFB, and WVCA members
    • Beef Checkoff collection/compliance communications materials
    • Membership communications materials
      • Member service
      • Member acquisition and retention
  • Event Planning
    • Coordinate public events (i.e. Beef Promotions, Memberships Meetings, State Fair)
    • Coordinate Board activities (i.e. regular meetings, special meetings)
    • Coordinate conference/meeting registrations and meeting details
    • Some travel coordination
  • Serve as spokesperson/point of contact for WVBIC & WVCA
    • Communicate with appropriate audiences to further the mission of WVBIC & WVCA, and WVFB
    • Attend appropriate meetings to represent the interests WVBIC & WVCA and further development of WVBIC & WVCA programs
    • Attend meetings to represent membership interests of WVCA including regulatory and legislative meetings
    • Attend appropriate national meetings to coordinate with NCBA and the Cattlemen’s Beef Board.
